Marmas is the meeting place of two or more of the five elements of the body i.e, vessels, muscles, ligaments, bones and joints. There are altogether 107 marmas which are classified into 5 groups:
1. Mamsa marmas(flesy)-11
2. Sira marma(vessels)-41
3. Snayu marmas(ligaments)-27
4. Asthi marmas(bones)-8
5. Sandhi(joints)-20
According to the effect of injury to them, Marmas are divided as:
1. Sadhya pranahar marma(fatal with in 24 hours)-19
2. Kalatar pranahar marma(fatal with in 2 weeks)-33
3. Vishalyagna marma(may be during surgery )-3
4. Vaikalyakar(may lead to deformities of organs)-44
5. Rujakar(causing pain)-8
