Ayurveda Treatment For Vomiting

Forceful ejection of the content of the stomach through mouth is called vomiting. Vomiting is a symptom rather than a disease. In ayurveda, vomiting is called chardi.

Causative factors:
There are several causative factors of vomiting which include mental factor,intestinal worms, pregnancy, intake of contaminated food stuff and many other cause.

Signs and Symptom
In ayurveda, this disease is classified into five categories namely vataja, pittaja, kaphaj, tridoshaja and dvistartha samyogaja.

  1. Vattaj type of vomiting is characterized by dryness of mouth, pain in chest and astringent taste in the mouth.
  2. Pittaj type of vomiting is characterized by burning sensation and sour eructation.
  3. Kaphaj type of vomiting is characterized by the presence of slime in the vomiting material.
  4. Tridosaja type of vomiting is characterized by the presence of all signs and symptoms of three types.
  5. Dvistartha samyogaja type of vomiting is caused by food poisoning and there is always nausea and foul smell from the mouth.

Treatment
The peacock feather is very effective in checking all types of vomiting. There is a special method for the preparation of ash of peacock as explained in ayurveda. After burning the peacock feather over the fire the ash can be given to the patient in a dose of two grains four times a day mixed with honey.This is called mayur puchha bhasma.This is the drug of choice for the ayurveda treatment of vomiting for ayurveda physicians.The juice of unripe fruit of kapittha (Feronia limonia) mixed with honey and long pepper can be given to the patient in a dose of one teaspoonful four times a day. The small variety of cardamom is exceedingly useful in this condition. The seeds of this drug are given in a powder form in a dose of one teaspoonful three times a day with water.

In this way,the treatment of vomiting can be done as explained in ayurveda.

Diet
Parched rice is considered both food and a medicine for this condition. It is made to a paste, strained through a linen cloth and diluted in water or butter- milk and administered to the patient. Salt or sugar may be added to this according to taste. It becomes very effective when given along with the powder of the seeds of cardamom and clove about five grains of each. Vegetables soup and badara fruit (Zizyphus sativa) are very useful for the patient. The juice of pomegranate can also be useful for the patient. The juice of pomegranate can also be given. The patient should not take any solid food during attacks of vomiting. These diets has been illustrated in ayurveda.

Other regimens
The patient should be given complete rest and care should be taken to see that he doesnot become dehydrated.
