Causative factors
According to susruta and bhagbhat, there are six types of swarabheda( vataj, pittaj, kaphaj,kshayaj and medhaj). The classical text of ayurveda have explained excessive sound production, intake toxic substance, reading loudly and injury as the main cause of hoarseness of voice. However, some other causes of hoarseness of voice are infection, intake of excessive hot and cold drinks, abnormal growth(tumor), foreign material, infection of the respiratory tract are other cause of the hoarseness of voice.
Treatment
The patient should be given the powder of yastimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra) and vaca (Acorus calamus) in a dose of one teaspoonful four times a day mixed with honey. Dry hot fomentation externally is useful in this condition. Gargling done by adding a teaspoonful of irimedadi taila in a cup of luke warm water is useful in this condition. Khadiradi vati or eladi vati should be kept in mouth and sucked slowly.
Diet
Ginger, black pepper, salt, garlic, dry grapes and ghee are also useful in this condition. The patient should avoid other sour things, fried things, oily and spicy food and excessively cold things.
Other regimens
